2020

Empowering Voices: Ensuring
Every New Yorker Counts.

In 2020, we took a pivotal step in community advocacy, receiving the NYC Census Grant for the first time. This support enabled us to lead vital outreach efforts, ensuring that every resident—especially immigrants, low-income families, and communities of color—was counted. By amplifying underrepresented voices, we helped shape a more inclusive and equitable future for all New Yorkers.

2021

A Season of Giving: Expanding
Our Community Impact.

Our journey began with a heartfelt mission—bringing Thanksgiving joy to families in need and setting students up for success. In 2021, we hosted our first Thanksgiving Turkey & Food Distribution, ensuring essential holiday meals reached those who needed them most. That same year, we kicked off our Backpack Distribution, equipping young learners with the tools they needed to thrive in school.

2022

Igniting Change: The Birth
of Youth on the Move.

In 2022, we launched Youth on the Move, a dynamic platform empowering young people across Woodside, Western Queens, and NYC to raise their voices, take action, and drive change. Through advocacy, volunteerism, and awareness campaigns, we are equipping the next generation with the tools to lead, inspire, and make a lasting impact in their communities.

2023

Growing Stronger: Expanding Education Programs, Artist Employment and Supporting Local Businesses.
A landmark year of growth! We proudly expanded our Afterschool Program to include middle school students at IS 429 Q, ensuring continuous support as they navigate their educational journey. This milestone marked a major step in our commitment to youth development and universal afterschool.

Additionally, we secured the SBS Avenue NYC grant and Creatives Rebuild NY (artists employment) empowering us to deepen our impact and reach on the Woodside Corridors and bring art into public spaces.

2024

Building Bright Futures: Launching Our First Pre-K Program.
This year marked a transformative milestone in our mission to make universal afterschool programs. With the launch of our first Pre-K program, we are laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning by nurturing curiosity, fostering creativity, and developing essential skills. Through this initiative, we are committed to giving every child the strong start
they deserve for a brighter future.

Testimonials

“Woodside on the Move is a program that I’ve been involved with since I was a little girl. I grew up attending the after-school program, just like my daughters are doing now. Like many parents, I depend on this after-school program. Not only is it beneficial for us parents, but it also offers tremendous value to the children. Woodside on the Move has been a pillar in our community, supporting families like mine for generations.”

“My son has had a fantastic time participating in Woodside on the Move. The program has brought about noticeable improvements in both his behavior and academic performance. He has become more focused, engaged, and motivated in his studies, and his positive attitude has carried over into our home life. One standout moment for our family was seeing him take pride in completing a challenging project, which reinforced his ability to persevere and succeed. This program is invaluable to the children and families it serves, and we are incredibly grateful for its positive influence on our lives.”

I.S. 429 Parent Victor Bazalar

“Our daughter has attended Woodside on the Move's afterschool program for three years since she was in kindergarten. The benefit has been beyond measure. The lasting friendships she's made with students and teachers in the program has greatly contributed to who she is today. We are so grateful to WOTM for continuing to provide such a welcoming and nurturing environment for our daughter after day school ends so that we are able to manage our work responsibilities during the week. We cannot thank WOTM enough for all that they do for our community”.

“My son loves this program. He loves the special classes offered such as crocheting, and he is looking forward to the debate club. When we pick him up from this program, he cannot stop talking about what he did that day and his interactions with the instructors. My son previously hated attending after school because his friends would be able to go home early. As my husband and I both work, he is usually the last child picked up from the program. When we walk into the school building, he is in no rush to leave and usually continues to talk with Ms. Brianna and the other instructors. The instructors are very engaging and work with all the students. They make sure that the children are interacting appropriately and enjoy their time together.”

I.S. 429 Parent Tonia

“My children are enrolled in 2nd and 1st grade, we have participated for 3 years now and this program is an amazing opportunity for working parents. My son loves the different activities that are offered in the program including Taekwondo lessons, piano lessons, and the soccer group. I have seen some improvement in my boys academically and have seen how my second grader has been improving with his reading as well as with his socialization being such a shy child. Mr. Rafael (group leader) has been helping him get more confident and to be more active within the program. My son performed at the Christmas show that took place in December 2024 in Woodside and in previous years he would not have done it because he is extremely shy but thanks to Mr. Rafael's guidance, he has become more confident.”

P.S. 152 Parent Dr. Sunilda Andriotis, PhD

“Our son has participated in the Woodside On the Move after school program for several years now. He loves it! They have a great structure and schedule in place that helps him complete his homework first, and then he always enjoys the various enrichment activities that they have planned. It is such an amazing program, especially for working parents because it helps us ensure that his academic needs are met first while also providing him with a variety of social, emotional, physical and creative enrichment programming. One of the activities that he truly loves is the optional add-on of the Taekwondo classes that the program partnered with a local Dojo to have during after school. I wholeheartedly endorse this program and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to any other interested families.”
